How to take

A daily dose of estrogen in pill form, taken once or multiple times a day, usually dissolved under the tongue.

Potential side effects

Estrogens may interact and create more problems in persons with severe liver, thyroid or gall bladder disease, high blood triglycerides, and migraine headaches with aura or neurovascular symptoms. If you have these conditions or concerns, discuss this with you clinician here at Folx as well as your local medical provider.

Rarely, estrogen can cause benign (not cancerous) cell growth in the pituitary gland inside the brain. Estrogens could increase a person’s risk of breast cancer and decrease a person’s risk of prostate cancer. At present, it does not seem like estrogen creates much high cancer risks.

Are estradiol pills right for me?

Easy to consume in a pill form, either under the tongue or swallowed.

This method includes a steady daily dose of estrogen with fewer highs and lows than injectable estrogen.

Pills are preferred for those who have needle phobia or injection anxiety.

Popular Questions

What happens if I swallow them?

Nothing. It's totally ok. We recommend people dissolve them under their tongue, but if you end up swallowing some or all of them that's also ok.

When should I take them?

It depends on your dose. If your dose is one pill only, you can take that in the morning. If it's two pills, you can separate that into morning and evening.

Should I take them before bed?

Sure! Whatever works best for your schedule and will make it easy for you to remember to take them.

Do I take them with food?

Since we recommend dissolving them, we recommend not eating or drinking while the pills are dissolving. Eating or drinking immediately before or after though is totally fine.

What do they taste like?

They don't really have a taste but some people might notice a chalky texture.

Do I have to take them exactly 12 hours apart?

Nope. The more consistent you are with timing, the more stable your estrogen dose will be, but being a few hours late or early won't be problematic.
