Getting started with FOLX is easy! Learn how to sign up for a FOLX membership to get access to expert LGBTQIA+ health care and community support. If you want to learn more about what is included in a FOLX membership, check out this article.

How to sign up for FOLX

To start the sign up process, click the “Join Now” button at the top of the page or click this link. (If you’ve been a member previously, you can sign in to your account and reactivate your membership.)

You’ll then follow the steps, starting with filling out basic information (name and email). You’ll confirm your email address by clicking a link in your email inbox and then create a password for your account.

The next step will be to fill out some personal information like your address and phone number, choose your membership plan (monthly or yearly), and provide your credit card information. If you choose the monthly plan, you’ll start with a 10-day free trial followed by a charge of $39.99 per month. With the yearly plan, you’ll be charged the $299 membership fee for the year right away.

Once you’ve checked out, you’re in! You’ll be taken to your FOLX account where you can book your first visit or explore your account.

How to book your first visit

To book a visit, click on “Book a visit” in your FOLX account, or go directly to this page.

Choose the reason for your visit—you can book visits for gender-affirming care, primary care, sexual & reproductive health care, mental health, therapy, and fertility & family building.

Once you choose your visit reason, you’ll then choose your clinician and the date and time for your visit. Most folks can get a visit within a few days.

You will have the option to pay for your visit with or without insurance. You’ll be able to input your insurance to check your eligibility during this process. With insurance, you’ll pay your visit copay or coinsurance. Visits without insurance cost $159 for 30-minute visits (initial visit) and $79 for 15-min visits (follow-up visits). Once you’ve input all your information, you’ll check out and your visit will be booked!

After you book your visit, you’ll receive a visit confirmation with a zoom link, an email with some additional information, and a calendar invite. If this is your first visit, please make sure to fill out your intake form at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Next steps

Prepare for your first visit

At your first visit, you’ll speak with your clinician about your needs and make a care plan together. To get the most out of your visit, make sure to come prepared with any questions or issues you want to bring up with your clinician. Your clinician can then help you decide what the next steps should be, whether you need medication, a follow-up visit, or a referral. Check out our video from FOLX staff member Max (he/they) to get some helpful tips on how to prep for your telehealth visit.

Get your medications

If your care plan includes medications, your clinician will send your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. If you are receiving gender-affirming medications, you can get them delivered directly to you from our FOLX partner pharmacy.

Message your clinician and care team

You can send a message to your clinician and care team any time in the Athena Patient Portal. You can get there by going to “Messages” in your FOLX account. Your clinician and care team can help you if you have questions about your care plan, medications, and labs, or if you need medical advice or help with your injections.

Message the Member Navigation team

You have access to an entire Member Navigation team who can help you with any support questions you might have. You can send them a message if you have questions about your account, billing, shipping, lab issues, scheduling, referrals, or letters. To contact a Member Navigator, submit a request in the Help Center.

Join the FOLX Community Platform

Your FOLX membership includes access to our Community Platform! The platform is a place to connect with fellow members, join support groups, share experiences, access resources, join events, and more. You can access the platform by going to “Community” in your FOLX account.

Get labs done when they’re needed

Your clinician may order labs depending on your care plan. When they do, you’ll receive an email letting you know that your clinician has ordered labs for you with instructions on how to get them done. In general, labs for gender-affirming hormone therapy are done 1-2 times per year and wellness labs are done once per year

See your clinician for any follow-ups

Remember, you always have access to book another visit with your clinician if you need a follow-up or if anything else comes up. You can see your clinician for things like anxiety, depression, management of chronic conditions, acne, allergies, migraines, sexual health issues, and so much more. And if it’s something we can’t treat via telehealth, we can refer you to a provider in your area from our national network of providers.

In summary, we make it easy to get started and being a part of FOLX means being a part of our community, with all the support that comes with it. If you ever have any questions about membership or getting started, don’t hesitate to submit a request in the Help Center.
